Developing innovative methods to quantitatively track our health and well-being has played an essential role in pushing the frontiers of healthcare. Due to advances in wearable technologies, measuring vital signs is now commonplace in the comforts of our very homes. However, continuously monitoring biophysical and biochemical signals within a living biological system (with minimal to zero perturbation) has proven to be much more challenging. Achieving such a feat will likely require an interdisciplinary approach that combines expertise from diverse research areas including biomedical engineering, chemistry, materials science, instrumentation, and data science. The Gerecht Lab at Duke University is collaborating with Nokia Bell Labs to create innovative solutions in this challenging space. We encourage motivated candidates to reach out and apply today!

The Data and Devices Group aims to develop the devices and AI that will seamlessly integrate the physical world and human physiology into the future network of everything. We develop innovative materials, devices, and machine learning techniques that can continuously and non-invasively interface, sense, and actuate the physical world. We emphasize individual creativity and value both fundamental research contributions and advances that could potentially expand Nokia’s human-centric product offerings. To this end, we are seeking highly motivated, talented and enthusiastic graduate students to take part in this year’s Bell Labs Summer Internship Program at Murray Hill, NJ. This is a 10-week paid internship, ideally for graduate students and post-docs (or exceptional undergraduates with research experience). The AI-Accelerator Group at Nokia Bell Labs is developing state-of-the-art artificial intelligence-based solutions for a wide range of applications from using computer vision for real time understanding of physical spaces to natural language processing to interpret and understand enterprise related language. We perform research ranging from building efficient and robust machine learning models, to system-level architecture design, with end-to-end solutions deployed into real-world applications such as agents for autonomous control, asset/people tracking in Enterprise environments, and Industrial automation.
