Digital predistortion and post equalization techniques in optical communications

  • Kaneda N.

Optical interconnects are the forefront in supporting todays explosive traffic increase for both intra and inter data centers. Optical communications have traditionally relied on baseband modulation with no carrier, and remain so for most of the short reach interconnects. On the other hand, the long haul transport has entirely adopted the recent innovation of digital coherent detection which opened the path for the modulation on optical carriers. In this talk, we will review the digital predistortion and post equalization techniques used for short reach and long haul optical communications including the recent progress and future challenges.

Protecting photonic quantum states using topology

  • Blanco-Redondo A.

The use of topology to protect quantum information is well-known to the condensed-matter community and, indeed, topological quantum computing is a bursting field of research and one of the competing avenues to demonstrate that quantum computers can complete certain problems that classical computers cannot. In photonics, however, we are only ...

This paper takes a fresh look at the debate over the relationship between digital technology and productivity. The argument of economic historian Robert J. Gordon is that digital technology will not lead to increases in productivity such as we saw in the last century, based on his analysis of the ...
