Wolfgang Pöhlmann received a Dipl. Ing. (FH) degree from the Hochschule Ulm in 1981. In the same year he joined SEL as a product development engineer for coaxial and optical transmission systems. In 1986 he changed to the Alcatel research centre, Stuttgart, were his main activities were in the field of high speed optical long haul transmission systems, hybrid and integrated circuit design. In 1999 he changed to the High Speed Competence Centre as group leader of a team of development engineers, were he contributed to optical systems and SiGe chip designs for up to 40 Gbit/s. He was project leader of the European project MEDEA A208 GIGACHIPS. In 2007 he changed to Alcatel-Lucent Bell Labs, for research on FTTH systems. His main interest is on TWDM systems. Since 2008 he contributes to the standardisation of next generation PON systems in FSAN. He authored and co-authored 42 papers and holds 23 patents.
