Biography

MICHAEL SOELLNER is a researcher and technical manager at Bell Labs in Stuttgart, Germany. He received a diploma in mathematics from the University of Erlangen/Nuremberg, and a Ph.D. degree (1984) in applied mathematics from the University of Bochum, both in Germany. Since then, he has held various positions in communication technology (Siemens, Philips Kommunikations Industrie, Lucent-Technologies, Alcatel-Lucent). In 1998, he has joined Bell Labs as a Technical Manager, where he focused on systems engineering and research for advanced technologies, protocols and architectures for mobile systems beyond third generation (3G) and future IP-based wireline / wireless converged networks. From 2007, in Alcatel-Lucent Bell Labs, Dr. Soellner has been responsible for collaborative cross-industry research projects in the European FP7 Research Programme dealing with innovative approaches to a Future Internet regarding connectivity and cloud networking. In recent years, focuses of his research work in the Bell Labs Wireless Research Program are innovative applications of virtualization and cloud technologies to mobile networks, virtualization of RAN functionalities such as resource management, distributed scheduling and processing placement,  and proof-of-concept demonstrations thereof.
