In the Fixed Networks Bell Labs research program, Geert leads the team that brings hardware innovation in access networks. He guides his uniquely skilled team in industry-relevant research challenges over the boundaries of the Fixed Networks context. Being a strong driver of the growing ASIC research inside Bell Labs, he has a proven track record of creating sustainable leadership in Alcatel-Lucent’s Fixed Networks position. Recently, this showed in his contributions to the record-breaking 10Gbps XG-fast demonstration – the novel copper access technology.
Previously, Geert was R&D director of a Bell Labs venture, focused on a real-time virtualized video platform, enabled by digital hardware accelerators. In this role, his entrepreneurial nature was combined with his innovative hardware mindset.
Prior to these commitments in Bell labs, he was responsible for a series of successful engineering projects and company-wide teams in the Wireline business group. He nurtured the start-up and fortification of the Alcatel-Lucent DSL Physical Layer team, based in four world-wide locations, which has evolved to the company and industry reference for all DSL product evolutions.
After joining the company in 1997, Geert has always been focused on creating and maintaining a differentiating position for the Wireline business of Alcatel-Lucent by exploring hardware solutions. Initially, he stood out through his personal technical contributions and leadership in ASIC solutions for fiber and copper physical layer access products, as well as for network processors.
