Platform Tiers
Platform Tier Definitions
Following is the current set of platform tier definitions:
| Tier 1 | Available immediately for new releases. |
| Tier 2 | Porting begins after all tier 1 ports have been completed. |
| Tier 3 | Made available at user's request (no charge). |
| Tier 4 | Porting may be done by request but entails a porting charge and possibly the use of the customer's machine. |
The new tier level 3 was added in 2006 to allow better support of high-demand platforms while still addressing the needs of lower demand platforms.
