Bayesian Nonparametrics for Marathon Modeling

  • Perez-Cruz F.
  • Pradier M.
  • Ruiz F.

Bayesian nonparametric (BNP) models present several desirable properties. Their most recognizable benefit is the ability of avoiding the need to specify a closed model and letting the data choose the model (or models) that describe it best, in order to provide competitive predictions [6]. In this paper, we focus instead ...

Novel bitloading algorithms for coded DSL transmission with linear and nonlinear precoding

  • Bastos Moraes Rodrigo

  • Marc M.
  • Tsiaflakis P.

Precoding is a technique that counteracts the crosstalk in downlink DSL transmission. While linear precoding is adequate in VDSL2 because of the moderate crosstalk environment, this might no longer be the case in, which uses higher frequencies and therefore is affected by higher crosstalk levels. In this contribution we ...

Analysis of pre-equalized multilevel partial response schemes for high-speed electrical interconnects

  • Guenach M.
  • Jacobs L.
  • Kozicki B.
  • Moeneclaey M.

In this paper we complement the overview of the basic baseband modulation in high-speed electrical interconnects by a detailed analysis of the equalization. We present a mathematical framework for the equalization and elaborate on different equalization aspects. We discuss the interplay between the choice of modulation and the equalization on ...

Multi-Objective Data Placement for Multi-Cloud Socially Aware Services

  • Du W.
  • Fu X.
  • Jiao L.
  • Li J.

Socially aware services are services where users form social relationships and interact with one another, which often have a large user base and every user's data have to be partitioned and replicated over multiple geographically distributed clouds. Choosing which cloud to place data, however, is difficult. Effective data placements entail ...

DualQ Coupled AQM for Low Latency, Low Loss and Scalable Throughput

  • De Schepper K.
  • Tsang I.

Data Centre TCP (DCTCP) was designed to provide predictably low queuing latency, near-zero loss, and throughput scalability using explicit congestion notification (ECN) and an extremely simple marking behaviour on switches. However, DCTCP does not co-exist with existing TCP traffic---throughput starves. So, until now, DCTCP could only be deployed where a ...

IoT-comunity Aware Multicast and Broadcast

  • Boussard M.
  • Bui D.
  • Douville R.

In order to secure the Internet of Things, we have proposed to split connected devices into small groups, called as communities of devices. Each of those communities connects devices authorized to communicate with each other using a defined set of applications. To isolate information exchange within each community, the network ...

On the Burst Erasure Capability of Spatially Coupled LDPC Ensembles

  • Aref V.
  • Rengaswamy N.
  • Schmalen L.

Spatially-Coupled LDPC (SC-LDPC) ensembles achieve the capacity of binary memoryless channels, asymptotically, under belief-propagation decoding. In this work, we are interested in the finite-length performance of these ensembles on binary channels with memory. We study the average performance of random regular SC-LDPC ensembles on the single block erasure channel and ...

5G and Energy

  • Saur S.

White Paper on 5G requirements and expectations from the energy sector.

Advertising Competitions in Social Networks

  • Masucci A.
  • Silva Allende A.

In the present work we study the advertising competition of several marketing campaigns who need to decide how many resources to allocate to potential customers to advertise their products through direct marketing while taking into account that competing marketing campaigns are trying to do the same. Potential customers express a ...

The Future of Information

  • White C.

We sit on the cusp of a revolution in information driven by the intersection of a massive increase in the sources of data and the ability to augment our intelligence and use critical thinking to turn this data into knowledge. Information can be defined as the communication or reception of ...

Globally Convergent Algorithms for Blind Source Separation

  • Papadias C.

We present a nobel class of adaptive algorithms for the blind separataion of non-Gaussian mutually independent source signals that can be modeled as independent identically distributed (i.i.d) discrete random processes. The signals are assumed to be transmitted through a m x p narrow-band (instantaneous linear mixture) channel. The original algorithm, ...

XStream: a Functional Language for Distributed Stream Processing in the Edge Cloud

Internet of Things (IoT) data and video traffic is forecasted to explode within the coming decade. Characteristic of such streams is that they are highly context-dependent and rarely consumed by humans. Traditional "big data" architectures are a bad fit for intelligently processing this large variety of streams as they usually ...

A Novel PCS Lane Management Mechanism For High-Speed Ethernet

  • Chen Y.
  • Liu D.

In high-speed Ethernet such as 40G/100G Base-R, multiple PCS lanes are used usually to transport data. When any lane cannot be synchronized or aligned, traffic will be broken and this greatly wastes datawidth. A Novel PCS Lane Management Mechanism For High-Speed Ethernet is presented here. This mechanism can ensure data ...

reCloud: Towards Reliable Application Deployment in Cloud

  • Akkus I.
  • Chen R.
  • Hilt V.
  • Viswanath B.

We propose reCloud (dubbed for reliable cloud), a novel cloud reliability framework. It incorporates any pieces of dependency information about a data center that is available to the cloud provider. Such information includes, for instance, the configuration and the states of the hosts, switches, power supplies and cooling systems, as ...

Polarization effects in nonlinearity compensated links

  • Awwad E.
  • Charlet G.
  • Fernandez De Jauregui Ruiz I.
  • Ghazisaeidi A.
  • Tran P.

We experimentally assess the impact of PDL and PMD on the performance of nonlinear compensation algorithms in dispersion unmanaged links. We show that PDL significantly degrades algorithm gains and increase gain fluctuations, while PMD has only a small impact.

Transmission of Waveforms Determined by 7 Eigenvalues with PSK-Modulated Spectral Amplitudes

  • Aref V.
  • Buelow H.
  • Idler W.

Eigenvalues of a 2-ns waveform and their PSK-modulated spectral amplitudes were optimized by taking constraints of link, transmitter, and receiver into account. These signals were generated and transmitted over 576-km of NZ-DSF fiber spans with 2E-4 SER.

  • Buchali F.
  • Dischler R.
  • Schmalen L.

We propose embedded short sequences of DQPSK-symbols within a n-QAM data stream for independent signaling on transponder level. In experiment we demonstrate a simplified processing chain obtaining a BER margin of factor 10 vs. data BER.
