Virtex-7 Platform for Optical Coherent Receivers at 100G and Beyond

Bell Labs is Alcatel-Lucent's research organization. Researchers collaborate closely with the company's customers and product development teams to create the technologies that are transforming the way people connect with each other and with the information around them. Examples of these technoliges are Alcatel-Lucent's 100G and 200G long-haul wavelength division multiplex (WDM) solutions based on coherent optical transmission, which was pioneered at Bell Labs. Coherent optical receivers detect the optical field instead of just optical intensity, thus allowing to significantly increase spectral efficiency, and enabling the equalization of a variety of optical distortions in the electronic domain using digital signal processing (DSP). Alcatel-Luent was first to market with a single wavelength 100G coherent transmission system in 2009, leading the competition by more than a year, and continues to be the technology leader in this field today.
