KT Corporation

KT Corporation (KT - www.kt.com) was established when it was spun off from the Ministry of Communications of Korea in 1981. KT made telephone services universal, increasing the number of lines in Korea from  4.5 million to 20 million in just twelve years. It also established a broadband network for the first time in Asia. It also engaged in the development of advanced communication services. From 1997, it focused on wireless and Internet services. KT became a private company in 2002. Now, KT is a global company with the success of its overseas mobile business in the Russian province. KT recently merged with KTF to be a fixed/mobile converged service provider and now has more than 30,000 employees throughout Korea. As of December 2009, KT had 20 million telephony subscribers, a 90 percent market share, and 7 million internet subscribers, a 42 percent market share. It also has a 32 percent market share with over 15 million mobile subscribers.

KT signed a voluntary agreement with the Korean government to adapt to climate changes, and has been making multilateral efforts to reduce greenhouse gases through energy reduction and high energy efficient materials.

“KT will continue to make innovative changes in order to achieve green growth, create jobs, contribute to national economic growth, and become a global IT leader by promoting the IT industry as a well-loved national company.”
