About UPRC and the Telecommunication Networks and Integrated Services (TNS) Laboratory

Telecommunication Networks and Integrated Services Laboratory (TNS Lab -
http://tns.ds.unipi.gr/) is framed within Department of Digital Systems (http://www.ds.unipi.gr/)
of University of Piraeus (http://www.unipi.gr/) and University of Piraeus Research Center (UPRC),
which is the entity that provides administration and technological support to basic and applied research carried out by the teaching staff of the University, at the international or national level.

TNS research areas include cognitive networks and services, autonomic computing, Internet technologies, smart services in the Future Internet, wireless and broadband networks, network and service management, design and management of broadband networks, network simulation and performance evaluation, heuristic- and machine learning-based optimization algorithms, service and software engineering.

Recent focus has been given in the areas of an autonomic Future Internet (e.g. UniverSelf Project - http://www.univerself-project.eu), cognitive management and opportunistic networks/ cognitive
radio networks (e.g. OneFIT Project - http://www.ict-onefit.eu/), the Internet of Things (e.g. iCore Project - http://www.iot-icore.eu/), applications and services.

UPRC/TNS in highly involved in the ETSI (European Telecommunications and Standardization Institute), has been involved in IEEE standardisation, is involved in the WWRF (Wireless World Research Forum) and NGMN Alliance (Next Generation Mobile Networks) and is a member of the European Network of Living Labs (ENoLL).
