The space where bottom-up projects and experimentation happen
The Nokia Garage Paris-Saclay, formerly Le Garage Bell Labs, was created in 2014 by three researchers to allow a space where bottom-up projects and experimentation can happen. Le Garage by itself is a bottom-up project and experimentation. In 2017 the reloaded version of Le Garage called Nokia Garage Paris-Saclay incorporated a startup in residence program and has served as a model for more than 20 other projects throughout Nokia.
The Garage Nokia is an open innovation space, on the Nokia Paris-Saclay site, made of two programs:
- An incubation program, open to all employees, for an upstream phase of rapid prototyping and experimentation
- An acceleration program, "In residence”, hosting internal teams e.g. "internal ventures" of the DIA (Digital Innovation Acceleration, Mobile Network) program and startups, partner teams, suppliers and students on co-innovation projects.
"The Garage" provides a unique set of resources including a makerspace, access to various platforms and experts such as Paris OTA live 5G network.
The startup “In residence” program also hosts early stage startups selected as part of the Nokia Open Innovation Challenge (NOIC), in order to facilitate their collaboration with Nokia Bell Labs researchers and provide them additional resources such as onsite offices and testbeds, mentorships and technical / business opportunities.
